Drake talks life, love, Hip-Hop on new MTV special.

Drake’s album, Thank Me Later, leaked a week early. Despite it all the Toronto rapper managed to move 446,680K units. MTV spent four months with the rapper prior to his album’s release trying to capture his progression beyond the bravado of his lyrics. Drake refers to that time as the most important of his life. The build-up for Thank Me Later is showcased with peeks into Drake’s recording of tracks, “Show Me A Good Time” and “Light Up”.

The documentary will likely please all Drake fans but could catch the attention of others as well. As much attention that’s paid to Drake; there is a personal look at Drake’s longtime friend and producer, Noah “40″ Shebib. He is the producer responsible for a majority of the rapper’s music, most notably the breakout mixtape So Far Gone. Drake’s love for his friend is highlighted by his testament to quit if he lost 40; who was diagnosed with MS at the age of 22.

The documentary is well delivered. It highlights a different angle into the artist’s life that most people don’t know. He states at the end, “If there’s another kid that comes along that does it better than me, looks better than me, sings and raps better than me. Then yeah it could blow over for sure … but I mean… I dunno where that guy’s at. Not right now. “

Check it out.
